Background Information:
His father was dead. His mother abandoned him when she took off for Mexico. His grandmother neglected him, and it had been three days now since he had set out to find his great grandparent. Maybe there he would find some kindness. Maybe there he would get food and they would love him—maybe for the first time, he would feel like he mattered to somebody. He was used to being alone on the streets, for he spent quite a bit of time in them when he lived with his grandmother. He was also used to being dirty, and hungry, but he wasn’t used to being lost! He was 7 years old, FAR away from the familiar streets near his grandmother’s, and he had no idea where he was. We are thankful to report that after three days of wandering, Victor Manuel Perez Herrera was picked up from the streets by a government official. He never reached the great grandparent’s house he had set out to find, but he did reach hope…the day the official located him and brought him to the Home of Refuge. Like every little kid that comes to the home, we first took him to the table and served him food. He was SO hungry that he ate as fast as he could! His 7 year-old body was famished, and he was very in need of good hygiene. The other children received him well. You could tell he felt good to be at the home—you could tell that he felt like he mattered to somebody. Now he receives love and attention, three meals a day, a clean bed, clothes and the Word of Jesus on a daily basis. It is for Victor, a dream come true.
